Install Google Play on the Galaxy Note 3 N9002

Notice

Please note that this procedure may not work with newer firmware versions, so I HIGHLY recommend following my new procedure for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9002 instead. You can view it here.

Purpose

The purpose of this procedure is to:

  • Gain access to the Google Play Store
  • Remove Chinese bloatware from the device
  • You will also gain root access and CWM Recovery

Downloads

FILE #1: CF Auto Root N9002

FILE #2: Odin 3.07

FILE #3: CWM Recovery N9005 6.0.4.4(1017)

FILE #4: Google Apps 20130813 for Android 4.3.0

Prerequisites

1. Connect your mobile to Wi-Fi, and ensure that the software is up to date. Navigate to “Settings > General > About device > Software update > Update” in order to check for updates.

2. Navigate to “Settings > General > Security” and ensure that “Reactivation lock” is NOT TICKED.

Part 1 – Rooting the device

1. Put the mobile into download mode by turning the mobile off and holding down POWER + HOME BUTTON + VOLUME DOWN simultaneously, until you see the below screen. Press VOLUME UP to accept the warning.

N9002 Download Mode

2. Connect the mobile to your computer, preferably using the microUSB 3.0 cable

3. Extract FILE #1 (CF-Auto-Root-hlte-h3gduoszn-smn9002.zip) and run Odin3-v1.85.exe

N9002 Odin v1.85

4. Ensure that the box beneath ID:COM is yellow, as this means that the computer can detect your mobile. If it is not yellow, try a different USB port and restart Odin. If it is still not yellow, you have a driver issue. Installing Samsung Kies can resolve driver related issues.

5. Click on the PDA button and select CF-Auto-Root-hlte-h3gduoszn-smn9002.tar.md5. This is located in the same folder as Odin3-v1.85.exe

6. Click on the Start button, wait until Odin says PASS! and the mobile boots back into Android, you can then disconnect the mobile from your computer

7. You will now notice the SuperSU app on your mobile, meaning that it has been rooted

Part 2 – Flashing CWM Recovery and Installing Google Apps

1. Turn the mobile off and put it back into download mode (Hold down POWER + HOME BUTTON + VOLUME DOWN simultaneously, then press VOLUME UP to accept the Chinese warning message)

2. Connect the mobile to your computer, preferably using the microUSB 3.0 cable

3. Extract FILE #2 (Odin307.zip) and run Odin3 v3.07.exe

N9002 Odin v3.07

4. Ensure that the box beneath ID:COM in Odin is blue, meaning that your mobile is detected

5. Click on the PDA button and select n9005-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.4(1017).tar (FILE #3)

6. Click on the Start button, wait for CWM Recovery to flash and the mobile to boot back into Android

7. Copy FILE #4 (gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip) from Windows onto the mobiles internal storage

8. Unplug the mobile from your computer and turn it off. Hold down POWER + HOME BUTTON + VOLUME UP, and release POWER when the screen turns on. Release the other two buttons when you see CWM Recovery.

N9002 CWM Recovery

9. Use the volume up and down keys to navigate the menu in CWM Recovery, and use the power button to select the highlighted option.

10. Highlight “install zip” and press the power button to select this option

11. Select “choose zip from /sdcard” using the power button

12. Highlight “gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip” and select it using the power button

13. Highlight “Yes – Install gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip” and select it using the power button

14. Once you see the message “Install from sdcard complete”, select “Go Back”, then “reboot system now”

15. You should now see the Play Store along with a few different Google apps in your Android app draw

N9002 Google Play

Part 3 – Removing the Chinese bloatware

1. Open the Play Store and log into your Google account. You may see a couple of force closes and experience a little freezing at first, this will however improve after the bloatware has been removed. You will notice a number of apps on the mobile automatically updating now, wait until this finishes.

2. Search for “Titanium Backup” and install the free version

3. Open the app and grant the Superuser request (pictured below)

N9002 Superuser request Titanium Backup

4. Dismiss all of the messages that come up when you open the app, and click on the Backup/Restore tab

5. You can click on any app that you want to uninstall from the list, and select “Un-install !” followed by “Yes”, and “Yes”. You need to be careful that you do not uninstall any apps that Android depends on to work properly, otherwise the ROM may become unstable, and you will need to flash the stock ROM on the device again.

N9002 Titanium Backup

6. Below is a list of apps that I have uninstalled without any issues:

116114 4.0.0

Baidu Map 1.0.1

Dictionary 2.0.4.5

Flipboard 2.0.7

QQ Browser 4.1

QQengine 1.0

QQupdate 1.0

Samsung Service center 1.0

Sina News 13.08.09.01

Sina Stock 130809.01

TaoBao 3.4.0

WeChat 5.0

Weibo 3.5.2

(Chinese text) 0.1.1 (TripAdvisor)

(Chinese text) 1.42 (Chinese contact app)

(Chinese text) 4.1.5 (Chinese email app)

(Chinese text) 3.3.1 (WO Store)

(Chinese text) 1.0 (Another WO app)

(Chinese text) 100.4.6

Other Little Things

  • You will want to get rid of the Baidu search widget on the home screen, there is a Google search widget
  • I recommend installing a different keyboard from the Google Play store, such as SwiftKey. Alternatively: Navigate to “Settings > Controls > Language and input”. You can change Handwriting recognition to English. Click on the gear next to “Samsung Chinese IME”, click on “Select input language”, deselect “Chinese input”.
  • I recommend installing and using Google Chrome instead of the default browser, as it looks like the default browsers search providers cannot be changed to Google etc
  • The weather widget appears to use a Chinese weather provider, and displays the names of cities in Chinese. You can however still configure it to show the weather for your current location, by selecting “Show current city” in the widgets settings
  • You may notice some Chinese text that displays on the incoming call screen, this is the phone number locator. You can turn this off by navigating to “Settings > Device > Call > Phone number locator” and deselecting “Turn on PNL”

Screenshots

Below are some screenshots of what the software on my N9002 looks like, after following the above procedure.

Conclusion

You should now have root access on your mobile, CWM Recovery and access to the Google Play Store. You should also have been able to remove most of the Chinese bloatware from the device. Let me know in the comment section below if the procedure helped you, and feel free to ask me any questions that you have.

  • vasilis

hi Mark!congrats again!what about languages?will it have all languages like the galaxy s4 dual sim after this pocedure?thanks!

    • MarrkDaviid

Hi Vasilis, since this procedure involves modifying the stock firmware, there are no additional languages, other than those that you would normally find in the stock firmware.

      • Maria

Dear Mark David, this is Maria, I have got a Note 3 N9002, I read above you were likely going to write a new procedure for the N9002, are you still considering that or should I get on using the rooting process you described above? thank you very much.

        • Maverick

Hi Mark, Is Maria correct? Will you be writing an updated rooting procedure for the N9002? That would be great! Cheers

          • Mike

Tried the above procedure for a newly purchased phone. Sadly, the Chinese Bloatware removal procedure is already unsuccessful as both SuperSU and Titanium Backup fails to work on Android 4.3. Hopefully, new files could be shared here. Thanks much!

          • Pv2k1sa

            Hi Mark,
Without rooting and without google play on Note 3 N9002, is the devise usable? Can
i copy the APK file and install gmail app, facebook, google maps,Whatsapp
, or any other app that I want?(do not want to install google play now )

Will installing apps using apk file void the warranty?,Does the Unicom 9002 version come with English by default?

I am in the process of buying the phone from China, Not feeling like voiding the warranty in the first month itself,May do it after 6 months.

            Thanks

          • http://marrkdaviid.com/ Mark F

Hi there, the device is usable without rooting it and installing Google Play, you may however experience Caller ID issues. You can install most apps via .apk file, and this does not void the warranty with Samsung China. The English language is included by default.

Hi Maverick, apologies for the delayed response. I have written up a new procedure for the N9002:

  • mic

    Hi Mark,
Thanks for these. I am wondering whether the rom, which looked like from N9005, is suitable for the duo-sim N9002. Thanks.
    Mic

    • mic

Do the two sim-cards work as the original rom?
      Thanks

      • MarrkDaviid

Hi Mic, it may be possible to flash the N9005 ROM on the N9002 (it is possible to flash the i9505 ROM on the i9502), though if this was to work, you would no longer have dual SIM functionality, which defeats the purpose of owning this variant of the mobile.

        • mic

          Hi Mark,
What I meant is that the “FILE #3: CWM Recovery N9005 6.0.4.4(1017)” looks like from N9005. So, is everything still function as N9002, such as the dual sim?

          Thanks.

          • MarrkDaviid

Hi Mic, CWM Recovery does not have anything to do with the actual ROM on the mobile, so all of the dual SIM functionality will still work.

          • Joe

Mark … i tried the above and it worked perfectly fine… yahooo… i feel like a techie !!! thank you very much for the simple instructions. only one issue i keep getting this msg “unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped” pls let me know if u have any fix for this…thanks …joe

          • http://marrkdaviid.com/ Mark F

Hi Joe, I am glad to hear that the procedure helped you, and you may like to consider giving my new procedure a try, which should have less issues with Google Play:

  • Worried

marrkdaviid, please i need your help urgently. i tried rooting my note 3 ,sm-n9002 but it’s like i miss one step ,that is the ID:COM did not turn yellow before i started the rooting proceedure. Now the phone is hanging!! Please what do i do now to get my phone back? This the message on the phone – Now send the package you want to apply to the device with “adb sideload “….. what is the meaning of this msg?
    Worried

    • MarrkDaviid

Can you please attach a picture of what the screen looks like?

It sounds like you will likely need to flash the stock firmware back on the mobile. Go to http://www.samfirmware.com/, register for an account, and search for and download N9002 firmware.

You will then need to extract the downloaded file, and it should contain a file that ends in .tar.md5

Put the mobile into download mode by turning the mobile off and holding down POWER + HOME BUTTON + VOLUME DOWN simultaneously, press VOLUME UP to accept the warning.

You will then need to run Odin 3.07 (FILE #2 above), and ensure that the box beneath ID:COM is blue. If it is not, please try downloading and installing Samsung Kies on the computer, as this should resolve driver related issues.

Once the port is blue in Odin, click on the PDA button, and navigate to the firmware file ending in .tar.md5

You will then need to click Start in Odin, and the stock firmware should be flashed back onto the mobile

      • kyri

I installed kies 3 on windows 8 pro, still no yellow port

        • http://marrkdaviid.com/ Mark F

Hi there, sorry for the delayed response. The port should be blue in Odin 3, and if it is not blue when your mobile is connected, then you likely have driver issues. Installing Samsung Kies on the computer should resolve these.

  • Adham

Hi mark, i connected my rooted n9002 to the pc and i got a message that there is a firmware update. Is it safe to go ahead and update or would this harm the phone and might restore it back to the Chinese firmware. Kindly advise.

    • MarrkDaviid

Hi Adham, I personally avoid installing firmware updates on rooted devices, as this can potentially cause issues. If you want to try doing this, backup all of your data first, in case anything goes wrong, and you need to return to stock firmware.

  • philaussiep

hi mark, this is really great and i followed all the steps. now i got the google play and it seems to work, though there would be occassional messages like the gapps had stop working.
and maybe you can tell me how to sync my facebook photos to my phone gallery. is is possible with this phone galaxy note 3 dual sim.
    ta, and more power.

  • IB

Hi Mark, I followed the steps and successfully rooted and installed Google Play on N9002. Problem now is everytime the phone is power-on, it always showing Android Upgrading message. Is there any way I can disable this message?

    • MarrkDaviid

      1. Download and install Solid Explorer, open the app
      2. Click the ‘Jump’ button in the app, select ‘Device’, then select ‘System root’
      3. Open the ‘system’ folder, followed by the ‘framework’ folder
      4. Find the below two files:

      com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar
      com.google.widevine.software.drm.odex

      5. Either add “.bak” to the end of the file names, or delete them.

      • len

That’s excellent. I did it through Root Explorer that was pre loaded. What happens if I delete the folders. What do I loose?
        Many thanks

  • Henry B

    Hi Mark,
Firstly, thanks for this guide, which is extremely simple for a layperson like me to follow. I’ve followed your instructions and managed to install the play store on my N9002 device. However, it seems that only one of my sim slot is working now. The other 2nd sim slot doesn’t seem to be able to recognize any SIM card. What can I do to rectify this ?
    Thanks again.

    • MarrkDaviid

Hi Henry, I would try returning the mobile to stock firmware, then attempting the procedure again.

This is the latest stock N9002 firmware from samfirmware.com:

      http://www.hotfile.com/dl/254627025/32e030e/N9002ZNUDMK1_N9002CHUDMK1_CHU.zip.html

You would need to download and extract this zip file, there should be a .tar.md5 file inside of it. You would then need to connect your mobile to the computer using a microUSB cable, and run Odin 3.07 (FILE #2 above).

You would then need to click the ‘PDA’ button in Odin, navigate to and select the .tar.md5 file, then press ‘Start’ in Odin, and wait for it to finish flashing the stock firmware.

If the second SIM card slot is still not working after returning to stock firmware, then this is likely a hardware issue.

      • Manny

        Hi Mark,

I rooted my phone on the MI7 firmware, can I flash the MK7 firmware and root the device again to install the google apps?

        Thanks!

      • joy

I’ve a similar question Mark. I’ve rooted my phone on the MI7 and I’d like to flash the MK1 firmware. If I go over rooting again, will the procedure still work? Thank you.

        • http://marrkdaviid.com/ Mark F

Hi Joy, sorry for the delayed response, I recommend following my new procedure:

          http://marrkdaviid.com/2014/01/how-to-flash-sva-rom-v2-0-on-the-samsung-galaxy-note-3-n9002/

          • Joy

Mark I totally forgot about my post here. I was so enjoying my note 3 after the successful rooting of my Note 3 I couldn’t locate your website. This is just to thank you for the simple procedure though I had my techy husband do it as I didn’t have such courage. Thank you now I am able to enjoy what I’m paying for. I got rid of the “Index Service has stopped” problem and other bloatwares which ate up my battery life. Now I am charging the bat every 2 days moderate to heavy use. Before it wouldn’t last a day and the Index Service kept popping up and it’s the first on the list to consume so much of my battery.

  • Adam Chong

Thanks for the tutorial, i’m successfully install gapps. but now and then there will be a popup saying gapps proceess not fucntioning. pls help. Thak you

    • MarrkDaviid

Hi Adam, Google Play is not 100% stable at all times, though it should work for the most part. I am going to look into some Custom ROMs soon, and if they are more stable, I will likely write up a new procedure for the N9002.

  • Royston

Marrkdaviid, i followed your instructions. it was very clear and simple. link provided was working fine. thank you very much for your hard work. appreciate it.

    • MarrkDaviid

Thanks Royston, I am glad to hear that the procedure helped you.

  • Mike

Hi Marrk, I did the same thing to my N9002 a few weeks ago – root, flash recovery then flash google play store.

    A few questions:

    1) do you get “Android is upgrading” upon every reboot? Can’t seem to avoid/fix it. And seems it is only the apps I download from the play store that need to be upgraded. The more apps I have the larger the number of apps that need upgrading each reboot.

    2) do you get random signouts from your google account? I can’t pinpoint how to trigger it, but randomly the phone gets signed out of google services and loses access to gmail/calendars/google services on the phone, and I have to re-login.

    3) which version of firmware are you running? I upgraded to “N9002ZNUBMJ3″ after getting it out of the box, but then wasn’t able to downgrade to a modded chinese “MI7″-based ROM.

    • Mig1401

I got the same ingnouts, how to solve it?

      • Stav

I also have the same issue
        Reset
Re loaded all programs many time now continually “Android is upgrading” on reboot
        Rom N9002ZNUDMJ6_N9002CHUDMJ6_CHU
It only happens when I load gapps-jb-20130813-signed
        Not after any other step
Will an update version come available to fix this issue?

        • MarrkDaviid

This should fix the “Android is upgrading” issue:

          1. Download and install Solid Explorer, open the app
          2. Click the ‘Jump’ button in the app, select ‘Device’, then select ‘System root’
          3. Open the ‘system’ folder, followed by the ‘framework’ folder
          4. Find the below two files:

          com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar
          com.google.widevine.software.drm.odex

          5. Either add “.bak” to the end of the file names, or delete them.

          • Stav

Thank you Marrk, I deleted both the files and now it working perfectly

          • Stav

            Hi Marrk

I have another small issue each time I boot the phone displays the follows message
unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped
Press OK and I don’t see it again until I reboot
I have tried resetting, wiping ever thing clearing the memory
If I remove the google account or turn of network connections wifi the no message
Hope you can offer some assistance
            Thank you

Hey Marrk, thanks so much for this awesome tutorial. It has almost solved all of my problems. The last challenge i am facing is the every few hours i get this error: unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped and i’m not sure why. In some cases it removed the google account from settings and then i lose all contacts until i got back and re-add it :-/ any suggestions?

          • Sean

Thanks Mark. I actually found SVA Rom a few weeks ago and installed the paid version. It’s working very well with only 1 or 2 small issues which are not dealbreakers at all. I recommend it to anyone who has the N9002.

          • http://marrkdaviid.com/ Mark F

Hi Sean, apologies for the delayed response. You may like to give my new procedure a try, as you should experience less issues related to Google Play crashing.

Hi Stav, apologies for the delayed response. Please give my new procedure a try, as you should have less issues with Google Play, due to it being a part of the custom ROM.

            http://marrkdaviid.com/2014/01/how-to-flash-sva-rom-v2-0-on-the-samsung-galaxy-note-3-n9002/

    • MarrkDaviid

      Hi Mike,

This should fix the “Android is upgrading” issue:

      1. Download and install Solid Explorer, open the app
      2. Click the ‘Jump’ button in the app, select ‘Device’, then select ‘System root’
      3. Open the ‘system’ folder, followed by the ‘framework’ folder
      4. Find the below two files:

      com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar
      com.google.widevine.software.drm.odex

      5. Either add “.bak” to the end of the file names, or delete them.

I have noticed the signout issue on one occasion, this isn’t currently my primary mobile though, so I understand that some people may have experienced it more.

I am going to look into some Custom ROMs for this mobile when I have some spare time, and if they are more stable than the above procedure, I will likely write up a new procedure.

      My N9002 is running N9002ZNUBMI7.

  • Adham

    Hi Mark,
Thanks for your input regarding the firmware upgrade. Will postpone upgrading then. A couple of issues has appeared on the phone which I have no clue how to solve. 1) All contacts tend to disappear from the phone every once in a while. After a couple of restarts, they show up again. 2) The phone turns to mute mode in its own. 3) The welcome screen in Chinese is very irritating :), is there a way to remove it?
As always, appreciate your input. Thanks

    • MarrkDaviid

Hi Adham, so this is happening in the Contacts app? Are the contacts saved on your SIM card, on the mobile, or being synced from your Google account?

I haven’t personally experienced the mute issue, though my mobiles are usually on mute anyhow.

I will look into the boot screen when I have some spare time, it likely works the same way that it does on the i9502 though, meaning that it is possible to remove the sounds, though not the WO 3G screen.

  • Badr

    Hi,

If I did the above procedure, am I going to be able to use the functionality of dual sim, or this procedure would damage the function.

    • MarrkDaviid

Dual SIM functionality should still work without any issues after following the above procedure, works for me.

  • bill

    hi!sva rom superb dosn’t have all languages?because somewhere i read about it.thanks!

    • bill

i’m talking about sva 2.2.the sva team says that is full international rom..

      • MarrkDaviid

Hi Bill, I haven’t had a chance to try SVA ROM for the N9002 yet, will likely look at it within the next few days.

Hi Mark, is there any function missing from this version of note 3 vs the LTE version even after a successful root? I’ve read somewhere that SPen functionality may not be complete… tks!

    • MarrkDaviid

I personally don’t use the S Pen that often, so haven’t really noticed any differences there. The N9002 does have some limitations compared to the N9005, so I would only get the N9002 if you really want a dual SIM mobile.

  • Georgios

    What about Knox?
Does this produce issues in latest firmwares?

    • http://marrkdaviid.com/ Mark F

This procedure voids the Samsung warranty through KNOX.

  • OpenMinde

    Hi Marrk,

Did you have a chance to try out the SVA ROM for the Note 3 yet?
I am torn between just rooting with your method and removing all the added bloatware or installing the SVA Rom.

Unfortunately i keep reading of people who have installed SVA ROM for the Note 3 dual sim and still keep getting auto starts, unexplained google signouts and other problems whereas with your method they are much fewer complaints and clearer workarounds.

Kindly let me know if you have tried it out yet.

  • Adam

    Hi Mark
I’m experiencing a disappering act from the google account once awhile. All procedures was done correctly and phone running smoothly. Any solutions to this problems thank in advance

  • Jimmy Low

    Hi Mark,
I bought my dual sim Note 3 from China. I have followed your procedure sucessfully and able to use Google play to download aps. I downloaded Titanium backup. When i run it it says ” Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and try again….”

But as per my understanding the ROM should have been rooted by the end of your procedures. I run SuperSU and following error message pop up

“There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manually re-root – consult the relevant forums for your device!”

I am stucked here. What should i do next ? Do i need to re-root again? if yes, could you kindly tell me how to do it?

  • Manny

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for this very awesome procedure. I nearly did not buy the dual sim note 3 if I hadnt found this.

I hope you continue to check on this device for newer firmwares coming from Samsung, just so because I think the latest ones have got some improvements with them, and we do not want to miss out on those.

    Thanks!

  • Rey

Hi Mark, Please help. I just bought note 3 dual sim and I would like to remove the China Unicom that boots up every time I re-start the phone.
    Thank you.

    • http://marrkdaviid.com/ Mark F

Hi Rey, I don’t believe that this is possible, unfortunately.

  • Mark Teo

Hi Marrk, I recently bought a N9002 from Etotalk . com. The phone comes rooted and installed with Etotalk mod rom. Everything works fine except my caller id. The phone shows the number without the area code. So it doesn’t display the contact’s name. Can you advise me of the following:
    1) is there a different procedure for me to root my phone again?
    2) is there any problems with the caller id in the rom you have?
    3) after using your rom, will all Samsung functions work? Like the S pen and so on.

    • DT

Hello, unrelated to your question but I am also interested in purchasing the N9002 from etotalk.
      Could you let me know:
      1) Does the etotalk Mod ROM trip up the KNOX counter?
      2) Which other “Preinstalled Service” did you pick?
      3) Did it still come with Chinese bloatware or boot splash screen?
If you have an email address, I wouldn’t mind asking you a few more questions about it.
      Thanks.

    • http://marrkdaviid.com/ Mark F

Hi Mark, apologies for the delayed response, you may like to try following my new procedure:

      http://marrkdaviid.com/2014/01/how-to-flash-sva-rom-v2-0-on-the-samsung-galaxy-note-3-n9002/

      1. If you follow the above procedure, your mobile will be rooted
      2. Caller ID works well for the most part, in the above procedure, you need to choose your country’s phone number length when installing the ROM
      3. Most of the Samsung features should work without any issues

  • darkliang

Hi Marrk. Thanks for your great job. I just want to be sure before proceeding. If we flash the software on the N 9002, we void the warranty. Will we still be able to upgrade to Android future version ? (kitkat).

    • http://marrkdaviid.com/ Mark F

Hi there, apologies for the delayed response. You will still be able to flash the mobile with newer Android firmware files, despite the warranty being void.

  • jondale

Hi Mark, I have the sm-n9002 rooted, google apps loaded, and bloatware removed but since I live in Brasil I would like to change the language to brasilian portuguese (pt_BR). Can you please provide a procedure to accomplish? Your “root” tutorial was extremely helpful, thanks.

  • Simon Pong

    Hi Marks, I am Simon from Malaysia.. Thanks for providing this root procedures for N9002. Appreciated very much indeed. Just wonder if you have any suggestion for my questions below;

    1. The caller ID number always mismatch with the contact list (thus, only phone number comes out instead of contact name ever though the name and phone number is in the contact list)?

    2. the message “unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped” always appear. is there anyway to remove it?

Hope to receiver your answer soon and have a nice day ahead.. Cheers

    • Adam

Hi Simon my name Adam Malaysia also, i’m currently using SVA custom rom real stable and you should try it.

    • http://marrkdaviid.com/ Mark F

Hi Simon, sorry for the delayed response. I recommend following my new procedure, because Google Play crashes a lot less, and Caller ID works a bit better, as you choose the phone number length for your country, during setup.

    Hi Mark,
I have just completed all setup till part3 and now on screen I only see Andriod Upgrading , Starting apps from 30 minutes. Is everything allright ? or I have removed some important files

    • Shankar Singh

Folks, I got into trouble while running this whole process to install google play. I have deleted few andriod files , while using Titanium Back up and I was not able to start my system. This made me read all comments in here . And Mark’s Reply to Henery b was the answer:-

“Hi Henry, I would try returning the mobile to stock firmware, then attempting the procedure again.

This is the latest stock N9002 firmware from samfirmware.com:

I downloaded the firmware from samfirmware.com , and applied to my phone.

Then I updated firmware using :- KYES. Then, I re- run the procedure. Every thing is fine. Except the usual problem like google service has stoped .
      Happy Now.

      THANKS MARRK DAVIID.

    • http://marrkdaviid.com/ Mark F

Hi Shankar, apologies for the delayed response. This is how you resolve the issue with ‘Android is upgrading':

      1. Download and install Solid Explorer, open the app

      2. Click the ‘Jump’ button in the app, select ‘Device’, then select ‘System root’

      3. Open the ‘system’ folder, followed by the ‘framework’ folder

      4. Find the below two files:

      com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar

      com.google.widevine.software.drm.odex

      5. Either add “.bak” to the end of the file names, or delete them.

If you are still experiencing issues, give my new procedure a try:

  • MM

    Hi Marrk,

I did everything thru part 2 fine. But after I installed Titanium Backup and tried to grant Superuser access, It gave me the error message:

“Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted, and try again.
This attempt was made using the “/system/xbin/su” command”

I followed every step thru step 2 without any issues. Why this error message? I don’t see the “backup/restore” tab because I’m not root…

    Any help appreciated. Thanks.

  • Imran Charania

    Hi Mark.

Thanks for the procedure. Worked great!!

I noticed people mentioning random sign outs from google accounts and contacts disappearing. I believe they’re connected.

I’m also facing the same problem. Except, I realize that my phone does this when I’m changing the sim cards (do this often while traveling to different countries). When I restart the phone after changing out the sim cards, for some reason the google account gets logged off. This also causes the contacts to disappear as my contacts are connected to my google account. Then I have to log into google again and I have to wait for the contacts to sync again before I can start making phone calls.

Do you have any resolution to this problem??

    Imran

Hi Mark I followed your procedure and it all work FANTASTICALLY! I was so happy… BUT…
Sadly I did something wrong with that last part where I was removing the Chinese bloatware and inadvertently REMOVED ALL input Keyboards!!! The only way to input anything now is with voice commands (which don’t work at all). Of course I initialized the phone (went through your procedure again, hoping it would restore the keyboard, but it made things worse)!
It now needs the wi-fi connected but I cannot use that because it requires a pass-code to be entered too!

With no keyboard it cannot be connected… I then disabled security on my wireless router and was able to connect, but then when I got to the google play store… Had to login. Again…No keyboard!

I am now ready to throw the thing away – smash it, as it is now completely and utterly USELESS. My $1000.00 Galaxy Note3 is now a piece of worthless rubbish that as far as I can see, will NEVER work again… Is there ANYTHING I can do to restore a keyboard??

I am really very upset, I hope someone out there an help – I only bought it last week…

Hi Marrk, I followed your instructions to root my note 3 N9002 and it was very successfully! Thank you for your clear instructions! I know that Kitkat firmware 4.4.2 is out. Do you know how I can update my rooted note 3 to that firmware version?

are you god??? thanks a milion. it is my first time to root! let alone, i am not even a techie guy!!!! my google app is now working.

question, i have successfully done this procedure.. is there a need to do the newer procedure that you posted in the “warning” sign above? any difference? coz the files are huge and takes long time to download.

kindly excuse for any dumb question. as i have stated. nontechie neophyte rooter. hehehe

  • Toilena Manila

hi mark, I am from the Philippines and I have problems with my contacts. it reads “0917xxxxxxx“ and” +63917xxxxxxx“ as different numbers.
I have to save the number 2 times in my contacts as 0917… and as +63917… for it to be able to recognize that it is one and the same.

    any fix it this?

by the way, I am on my 3rd day after rooting my phone using your procedure
and can only say. THANK YOU, SIR!

  • Asif

The problems of the Google process stop message and Google account vanishing can be stopped by going to application manager and disabling Google bookmarks sync and Google account manager. Disable after setting up the Google accounts first.

    Dear Mark,

Does the procedure and software given here also work on the Note II?

I have a samsung Galaxy Note II bought in China with, it seems, a limited android OS. Also, it seems impossible to install many google apps (e.g. installing google’s ‘play store’ seems impossible). I’d like to do the same thing you do here with a note 3, but then for a note II. Do you have any experience with this? Is it possible (and advised) with the files and procedure you describe here?

    Thank you!

    Hi Mark,

I just feel so lucky running into your post about rooting/flashing/removing chinese bloatwares on the Chinese version of Galaxy Note 3 Duos SM-N9002. The problem is this post is for firmware 4.3 while my phone is just updated with the latest firmware which is 4.4.2 KitKat. Since I’m still new to Android and still ignorant about all this, please advise me if I still can go ahead and follow all your instructions in this post to root/flash/removing all Chinese bloatwares and the most important of all is to gain access to Google Play store. Your help would greatly be appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
